Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy StopTheSpin.org paraphernalia?
At the StopTheSpin.org store!!

When the earth stops spinning, wouldn't half of the earth be totally without sunlight for six months, and the other half flooded with continuous sunlight for six months?
Yep.

Wouldn't this be a problem?
Nope. In fact, this could be a good thing. By creating a stirling engine (an engine that runs on temperature differences) we could have a never-ending source of energy!

If the earth were to stop spinning, wouldn't the atmosphere continue spinning, and strip the surface of the earth?
Yes. To prevent this from happening, we need to gradually stop the spin of the earth.

When the earth stops spinning, wouldn't it lose its magnetic field?
Yes. No more 'northern lights' - big loss...

If the earth stopped spinning, which way would my toilet flush?
It wouldn't change. I don't know how to tell you this...but the Coriolis Effect has no effect on your toilet. Oh -- and Santa Claus isn't real either.

Shouldn't we strive to make the earth 'sun synchronous' (i.e. slow its spin to once to 1 every 365 days)?
No. This would cause every spot on the Earth to have either permanent daytime or nighttime. This is very bad.

Why is this bad?
Because half of the earth would be fried to a crisp, and the other half would approach absolute zero!

Oh.
Umm..Any more questions?
